Glycolic acid; chemical formula C₂H₄O₃, is the smallest α-hydroxy acid. This colorless, odorless, and hygroscopic crystalline solid is highly soluble in water. It is used in various skin-care products. Glycolic acid is found in some sugar-crops. A glycolate or glycollate is a salt or ester of glycolic acid.
In general, glycolic acid is a very safe and effective skincare ingredient. To keep your skin safe, though, there are a few things to know before using glycolic acid. First and foremost, you must wear sunscreen whenever you are using glycolic acid treatments.
Foods that contain Glycolic acid are berries, cherries, grapes, papayas, pineapples, cantaloupes, apples, lemons, Glycolic acid can be isolated from natural sources, such as sugarcane and sugar beets.
